UCLH - Fibreoptic Skills Training Course
Details
This one day course, in which the candidates perform fibreoptic endoscopy on each other, is specifically designed for anaesthetists who wish to gain confidence in topical anaesthesia of the airway and to improve their manual dexterity in airway endoscopy..
The course includes video demonstration of topical anaesthesia of the airway and fibreoptic intubation. There is also hands-on practice on endoscopy trainer and manikin. Then the delegates move on to a monitored environment to set up the equipment, perform topical airway anaesthesia and fibreoptic airway endoscopy on each other under consultant supervision.
The course usually runs once a month on a Wednesday morning at the University College London hospital (UCLH). The course is limited to a maximum of 4 delegates (and one or two observers)and currently costs £75 for trainees (£150 for consultants).
