Gulf Paediatric Airway Course

Sheraton Hotel Abu Dhabi United Arab Emirates

Welcome to the Gulf’s first dedicated paediatric difficult airway workshop!
We have put together what we feel is a unique course designed to bring the skills and knowledge of managing
difficult airways in children under one umbrella and style of approach. Using a mixture of didactic lectures, videos,
interactive sessions as well as plenty of hands-on skill stations we think we will send our attendees fully equipped to
deal with any airway emergency the paediatric world throws at them.
A big tenet for us was to incorporate all clinical departments where paediatric airways are managed and unite them
under one training style and one format for clinical care. Whether it be Operating Rooms, Emergency Departments or
Critical Care areas it is vital everyone is on the same page with seem-less management and flow. This was a crucial
part of how we set up the SKMC Difficult Airway Response Team from both a personnel and equipment viewpoint –
uniformity in approach across all areas.

Who is the course designed for?
The course is most suited to anyone involved in the care of children who may require airway support or have critical
illness. So, anaesthesiologists, emergency care physicians, critical care practitioners, paediatric pulmonologists will all
gain from the course. The course is fully certified by The Difficult Airway Society UK.

What makes it different to other courses?
We have made the course varied to really cover all areas – we have widened the scope to include teamwork
exercises, as well as bronchoscopy training for ICU and OR, Emergency Department management and detailed airway
videos for anatomy and total understanding of the airway from our expert ENT airway surgeon. Add to this four hours
of dedicated hands on experience with flexible laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, video laryngoscopy and advanced
airway skills using state of the art simulation mannikins. Total course size limited to ensure 1:3 maximum tutor to
candidate ratios.

Aims of the course
To fully develop skills in difficult airway management in children across the whole range of experiences and
equipment. We will give you a unified strategy to managing difficult airways ensuring that not only your advanced
video skills are top notch but also all the tricks and tips of basic and advanced airway skills and how these can really
save the day when all else fails.
We hope you have a great day!
