Adult Emergency Airway Refresher Course

Half day practical course. Introductory lecture on any new guidelines, new equipment and learning points from NAP4

Then split into 2 multidisciplinary groups- ODPS, consultant ED, consultant ICU, consultant anaesthetics, recovery nurses.

2 stations- for groups to rotate through

-High Fidelity Simulation scenario from NAP4 case or recent case in our hospital with full Human factors debrief

- FONA with sheep larynges (1 per candidate) and airway heads, mannequins for practicing with glidescope, conduit assisted intubation through supraglottic airway, bronchial blocker, THRIVE, contents of our difficult airway

trolley.

Learning outcomes:

1.    Reinforcing lessons from NAP4

2.    Practicing FONA and using airway kit we have in our hospital

3.    Utilising airway skills and drills in a high fidelity simulationwith multi disciplinary team

4.    Introducing and further exposure to role of human factors
