Dr Sudheer Medakkar 6.6.1951 - 20.8.2016

It is with great sadness that the executive committee of the Society announces the sudden death of Dr Sudheer Medakkar. Sudheer was a tremendous servant of the Difficult Airway Society over many years.

An Associate Specialist in Anaesthesia in Torbay Hospital, his interest in airway management spanned a long career and into retirement when his other passion, teaching, continued.

It was after giving two extremely well-received lectures and heading two airway workshop sessions for the Society at the Kenyan Society of Anaesthetists 24th Congress in Mombasa that Sudheer suddenly collapsed. Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts by four fellow DAS trainers, Sudheer sadly died 20th August.

A past winner of the Evelyn-Baker Medal of the Association of Anaesthetists, he had organised and was due to chair the ODP session at the forthcoming Torquay DAS ASM in November. This session will be named in his honour.

Sudheer was a dedicated doctor, excellent teacher and a true gentleman who was universally popular with colleagues, ODPs, nurses and juniors alike. His administrative skills organising teaching and workshops were second to none.

He will be greatly missed.

Sudheer leaves his wife, two children and four grandchildren, to whom he was devoted.

DAS Treasurer.
