Hi,
Any trusts out there using System One for informaion sharing between primary and secondary care teams? As of January 2016, we will be going live with an electronic version of the DAS airway alert form that will result in an alert inserted in paient's summary if a difficut airway is encountered and the form completed. This will generate an email to the patient's GP as well. I've requested our IT to use the read code accompanying the guidelines. Interestingly, while going through the paper work and approval process, the Rheumatologists have requested that patients they identify as having exteremely unstable necks should also get such an alert. Initially, as the trust's airway lead, I've offered to generate this alert once I receive patient information. Lets see how that system evolves. Does anyone have any experience , suggestions to offer? Is there a national database ?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Dear Colleagues
Thanks for the reply to my question about role of FO in unexpected DA. I understand your point of view, it seems logic to stop blind intubation by using SGAD ,then intubate using FO. I think the same rule applies in expected DA, unless we decide to intubate directly by FO !!
Another question just for brain storming, do you think it's wise to put 2 attempts of intubation with rigid laryngoscope before applying SGAD & FO intubation ?? You know the study from 2004 that suggested significant increase in all airway problems up to cardiac arrest in cases with >2 attempts versus singlr attempt !!
I think we may add a phrase implying safe atraumatic attempt with no bleeding or trauma to airway, otherwise bleeding will obscure the view with FO,
Thanks for taking time to discuss this interesting issue.

Hi Alka,
Can you please elaborate on the System One? Sounds interesting.
DAS is currently working on a nationwide Difficult Airway Database and Alert Card System, the details of which will be available in the website in a few weeks time.
