Arpan has a Chair in the School of Medicine at the University of Liverpool. He is also a Consultant Intensivist and an Associate Medical Director at the he Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. He is also the Regional Lead for Organ Donation for Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and the Isle of Man. 
 
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Royal College of Physicians, the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine [UK] and the Chartered Management Institute UK. 
 
His most recent clinical research has been to create and validate a mortality prediction tool in neurosurgery and creating a workable assessment tool for measuring leadership and team working in medical trainees. 
 
His current research interests are leadership and team working in healthcare and quality improvement.
